J.K. Scheinberg, the legendary former Apple engineer, decided to work in an Apple store after his retirement, however, the 54-year-old was turned down by the company because of his age. The incident has caused Apple to come under a barrage of criticisms on social media, as the company has been accused of discriminating against people based on their age.

Scheinberg was the legendary engineer who convinced Steve Jobs to upgrade the Mac OS from PowerPC to Intel back in 2005. Apple customers would have been lucky to have him as a tech engineer in an Apple store, but unfortunately, his application was rejected. According to The Sun, the interviewing panel never got back to him, and many are speculating that he was denied because of his age.

The New York Times used the recent incident to highlight age discrimination in the workplace. Apple Stores are reportedly notorious for recruiting younger aged employees to front the stores.

Ashton Applewhite wrote that Scheinberg was a little restless after retiring in 2008 at the age of 54. He further added that "he (Scheinberg) figured he'd be a great fit for a position at an Apple store Genius Bar, despite being twice as old as anyone else at the group interview."

In fact, Scheinberg wanted to work in an Apple Store, not for the financial gain, but because he loved what he was doing. The Business Insider noted that it is unlikely that anyone could be more than qualified to work at an Apple store than Scheinberg who invented an Intel version of the Mac OS privately in his home.
