Rumors claim that Facebook is working on an OS X version of the Messenger app.

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular apps in the tech community, unfortunately it does not support the OS X operating system. Tech experts claim that it will change soon as a leaked photograph is currently circulating in the community that shows an alleged OS X version of the Facebook Messenger.

The leaked photograph was first reported by online media outlet Tech Crunch. It quickly spread like wildfire and now it has been picked by several mainstream media outlets as well as online forums and blogs.

Tech Crunch claims that the photo it has obtained shows a Facebook employee using the Mac version of the Messenger.

Although Facebook has yet to comment regarding the leak, experts claim that it will be a huge leap for the social networking giant should it release an OS X version of the Messenger. The app will play a major role in unifying different operating system and it could make it easier for people to chat regardless of the system that they are using.

Based on the photo acquired by Tech Crunch, Facebook Messenger for the Mac operating system has its navigation bar situated at the bottom left part of the app. The Options bar appears to be identical to the Messenger for iOS app which includes Groups, Settings, Recent and People.

Experts believe that Facebook is trying to create a standalone Messenger program for the Mac, the same strategy was employed when the social networking company released a dedicated Messenger app for the iOS operating system way back in August 2011.

However, unlike the time when Messenger was taken from the main Facebook iOS app in July 2014, the web version of the chat platform is speculated to remain available along with a separate desktop program.

Back in March 2012 when Facebook released a Messenger app for Windows desktop, the company said that it is working on a Messenger for Mac program. The Messenger for Windows app was discontinued in 2014. In April 2015, Facebook launched Messenger.com which is a standalone web chat platform.

According to PC Mag, aside from the rumors Messenger for Mac app, there are a handful of third party apps that users can use in order to access Messenger via their Mac system.
