Huawei, the Chinese electronics giant, has embraced Virtual Reality (VR) by releasing a new headset of its own, which can be connected to a user's phone. It combines the power and processor of a phone and includes a built-in screen inside the headset itself. The device is going to be launched this year.

As per Venture Beat, a week after the launch of Huawei's P9 flagship smartphone, it came up with this new wearable headset. The company adopted a Samsung Gear VR-style approach so it works only in tandem with Smartphones. This is unlike HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR. It is somewhat like the LG 360 VR so far, as the user connects his phone to the headset via a USB cable. The USB cable is said to be capable of simulating a 130inch TV viewed from about two meters away.

TechRadar attended the event of Huawei's new launch announcement. It got details such as the headset has a touchpad on the right, a focus adjustment wheel on the top and a back button above the touchpad; however, its price has not yet been revealed.

The headset will include 20ms latency, a 95-degree field of view and an anti-blue light filter to protect user's eyes. It will offer 40 games, 150 panoramic tours, over 4,000 free movies and 350 panoramic images.

Huawei had been planning to enter the VR fray for a long time. During the China launch of its P9 and P9 Plus smartphones, Huawei chose to introduce its new headset. It was expected that the company would unveil a new line of product during the first week of April in the global launch event in London, but it did not happen. So it is guessed that the VR headset might be limited to Huawei's domestic market only.
