The recent trademark filing for "Huawei 7P" suggests that the company is prepping up a Nexus 6P or Nexus 7 (2013) successor.

On April 7, Huawei had registered for a trademark for undisclosed device as "Huawei 7P" with United States Patent and Trademark Office. However, the listing of the device does not reveal whether Huawei has trademarked a smartphone or a tablet.

The Nexus 6P that was manufactured by Huawei was launched to replace the Motorola Nexus 6 from 2014.  The Nexus 6 was criticized for its huge size and below par selfie camera. Hence, the Huawei Nexus 6P was introduced with improved specs.

Both critics and users have given rave reviews to Nexus 6P as it delivers stock Android experience along with powerful specs. Hence, the Huawei 7P is expected to launch as a successor for Nexus 6P smartphone, 9 to 5 Google reported. The rumored specs of the alleged Google Nexus 2016 smartphone include 5.7-inch display that supports Quad HD resolution, a Snapdragon 820 or 823 chipset and 4 GB of RAM.

However, other tech sites have claimed that the Huawei 7P will be a tablet that will arrive as a successor for Nexus 7 (2013) by Asus. Google has consistently followed a pattern of naming Nexus smartphones and tablets according to their display sizes. Hence, the Huawei 7P is rumored to release as a 7-inch Nexus 7P tablet, Phandroid reported.

In the recent past, the rumor mill had revealed that Google will partner with HTC to manufacture two Nexus 2016 smartphones this year. The Taiwanese tech giant is expected to build a 5-inch smartphone as a successor for Nexus 5X and 5.5-inch smartphone to replace the Nexus 6P smartphone.

Both the HTC Nexus 2016 smartphones will be the first devices to release with Android N OS onboard. The Android N OS is expected to come with new features like 3D Touch, Multiwindow, number blocking, improved notifications, Data Saver, enhanced Doze Mode and more.

The final Android 7.0 version is speculated to be ready by July this year. Since the next generation Nexus smartphones are going to arrive preinstalled with Android N, both of them are expected to release in the third quarter of this year.
