United States-based network provider Sprint recently announced that it is rolling out the Android 60 Marshmallow update starting March 24. The update will only cover Samsung Galaxy Note 5 devices and will be released in a phased manner.

Sprint said that the update will be rolled out to compatible devices until April 8, by then the company estimates that all compatible devices have all received the necessary update. Aside from the Android update, Sprint is also rolling out a handful of patches for unspecified bugs.

For some tech experts, the most significant part of this update are the patches which came directly from Google and Samsung. These patches and bug fixes are vital in keeping user devices protected from malicious hackers.

The Sprint update will also incorporate Samsung's latest TouchWiz interface. This will make the Galaxy Note 5 in par with Samsung's latest Galaxy S7 devices, at least in terms of user interface. According to Android Authority, Samsung's latest web browser with ad-blocking support will also be part of the update along with new app icons, folder designs and animations.

Although Sprint did not release the official changelog of the upcoming update, experts believe that it will include new Android features like Doze, Google Now on Tap and the new app permissions manager, according to Android Headlines.

In the past few weeks, Samsung had been busy rolling out updates for its devices in different parts of the globe. The South Korean tech giant released the Android Marshmallow update in its native land. Additionally, Samsung also released the same update for its premium tiered devices in India and Europe.

While some users may applaud Samsung for releasing the Marshmallow update, the company is practically late in releasing the update when compared to some of its closest rivals like LG and HTC, both of which released the same update to their respective devices late last year.

As for Sprint, it is the second US network carrier to roll out the Android Marshmallow update, the first being Verizon which released the update last month. With Sprint rolling out the Android Marshmallow, AT&T and T-Mobile users are still left wondering when their respective network carriers will release the same update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
