Sony PSVR is looking to be the future of gaming now that the price has been revealed. Furthermore, the industry is praising the Japanese giant.

Things are going well for Sony at the moment due to the success of the PlayStation 4, but it all could get better after the release of the PSVR. Industry pundits are praising the company for the $399 price-tag of the device.

Industry watchers were not only impressed by the price, but also by the demos. However, they noted that the games, while exciting, were not good enough to be a killer app, and as such, it could be up to Sony to come up with something that will intrigue folks who are on the fence.

Another person in the industry who goes by the name, Joost van Dreunen, said while the price is right, the PSVR does not come bundled with all the key components. For the PSVR to work as intended, the PlayStation Camera is needed, but that is a separate buy. Furthermore, to get the most out of the PSVR, the PlayStation Move is needed, but that is also a separate buy.

Everything combined is a whopping $550, for those who are wondering. However, Joost van Dreunen hopes Sony will bundle the items together and sell them at an affordable price.

"I like the price point, but it doesn't include all the necessary components, like the camera [and controller]," said Joost van Dreunen, an analyst at SuperData Research. "So I expect Sony to announce a bundled version that provides consumers with everything they need," according to Joost van Dreunen in an interview with Venture Beat.

Brian Blau, analyst at Gartner, believes that overall success of the PSVR will depend on the quality of content. It took a while for the PlayStation 4 to find its killer app, and with VR being a different beast entirely, it may take even longer.

Still, Sony has a lot of time on its hands and a competition that is selling their respective devices at a higher price. Furthermore, the company's closest competitor, Microsoft, is busy working on its HoloLens AR device, and doesn't seem to have any plans at the moment for its own VR platform. The HoloLens headset can be seen via the Microsoft website.

As it stands, Sony is alone in the console space, and need not worry about competing products on the PC space impeding on its likely dominance.
