Tech giant Google recently rolled out a new update for its Docs online service. The update will make it easier for users to manage large and complex documents. Google is also adding a new out tool which collates headers and allow users to easily jump from any pages of the document.

The new tool is embedded on the Google Docs web app as a sidebar located on the left part of the screen. For Android users, the tool is embedded on the right side as part of a scrollable list. Google has yet to confirm whether the updates will be released on the iOS platform, according to Engadget.

Tapping the new outline tool will bring up the basic structure of the user's file. Through this, users can quickly hop on different sections of their documents. While some tech experts claim that the feature is a minor addition, it is a great help in editing documents, especially in the Android platform.

Tech analysts said that the new outline feature makes it easy to scan through a lot of documents especially if they are using a smartphone or tablet device.

Additionally, the new outline tool automatically creates sections if users forget or failed to do so. The search engine giant said that the tool in intelligent enough to detect all logical divisions within the user's documents.

The outline tool is also useful for users who regularly take notes on Google Docs. By default, the feature will organize documents based on their heading structure. If users did not add headers, the feature will base its organizational structure based on how files are divided. If users are not satisfied with the automatic headers that Google chose, they can edit it or remove the headers completely f they want to.

Google said that the update will slowly roll out to its user base within the next couple of days. The feature can be accessed on the Tools menu under the Document outline tabs. Users can also access it by selecting Document outline located on the overflow menu.

According to Forbes, Google is releasing these new features in order to make Google Docs more attractive than its closest competitor, Microsoft Word. Moreover, Google, just a week ago, released new templates aimed for teachers and students alike.
