Tech giant Microsoft recently announced that it is pushing the release of the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update to spring of 2017 in order to fully integrate it into the company's next wave of devices including the Surface Book 2.

Rumors about Microsoft planning to postpone the release of Windows 10 Redstone 2 have been brewing on several tech website for quite some time already. It was only on March 7 that the Redmond-based tech company officially confirmed the news.

Windows 10 Redstone upgrade is slated to be launched in two separate waves. The first Redstone update will be rolled out in June. The first update is being developed under the codename RS1.

According to WinBeta, RS1 focuses mainly on the convergence of all platforms that are supported by Windows 10. These include Xbox, Phone and PC. Redstone 1 updates will focus more on the Universal App Platform, which hits a the possibility of integrating Windows Store to the Xbox One console as well as the introduction of Project Centennial and Islandwood apps into the Windows Store.

Reports claim that there will be a bigger focus in terms of universal triple-A video game titles that are fully compatible with both Xbox One and the PC platform. Microsoft, as well as a handful of video game developers, has been slowly adapting this practice recently. All in all, the RS1 update will turn the Windows Store as the universal hub for all media related content on the Windows platform. This also means that the Windows Store will be universally accessible on all devices running on Windows 10.

As for the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update, tech analysts believe that it will focus on features that were not covered by the RS 1 update. So for now, it is still early to tell what features or updates will make it to Redstone 2. Perhaps the release of Redstone 1 will open up a discussion regarding what will make it into the Redstone 2 update.

Rumors claim that Redstone 2 might focus on first-party apps. Since the update was delayed, Microsoft will have more time to integrate it into some of its upcoming flagship devices like the Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 or Surface Phone, according to Digital Trends.
