It is one of the highly-anticipated flagship devices expected to be released this year. Rumors had it that HTC is dropping is regular naming scheme and will call its upcoming flagship smartphone HTC 10 and will drop the "One M" branding. The flagship HTC device is expected to hit the market on April 19.

The HTC 10 will be the spiritual successor of the HTC One M9 which was released in March 2015. Despite the fact that the One M9 did not perform well in the market, a lot of expectation is still pegged to the upcoming 10 smartphone as it marks the company's move to the next generation of devices.

The HTC 10 has an internal codename of Perfume. HTC claims that the upcoming smartphone is the "most advanced smartphone ever." Should HTC decide to follow the rumored release schedule, the 10 will go head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the smartphone market including the Samsung Galaxy S7, Sony Xperia X, LG G5 and the Xiaomi Mi 5. All of the previously mentioned smartphones were unveiled at the 2016 Mobile World Congress in February.

As for the HTC 10's specs, a handful of leaks reveal that the smartphone will use a heavily skinned HTC Sense 8.0 user interface which runs on top of an Android system. Screen size is rumored to be between 5.0-inch to 5.5-inch with a 2560 x 1440 Quad HD resolution. Some leaks suggest that the device will have an Active Matrix OLED display.

A leak posted by Twitter user @OnLeaks reveal an HTC 10 prototype which sports what looks to be a fingerprint scanner, back buttons, a dedicated menu, matte black design and a USB Type-C port. The post added that the smartphone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit. It will have 4GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera, according to Android Headlines.

In a statement acquired by CNet, HTC chief financial officer Chialin Chang said, "We can confidently say that HTC will have a very, very compelling camera experience. We're making this comment after we've seen what's going on in the market."

Some tech analysts believe that the HTC 10 can hold its ground despite the fact that it is slated to go head to head with some of most highly-anticipated smartphones slated to be released this year.
