Reports claim that the newest Windows 10 preview updates may cause some Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book to completely freeze. The new update, labelled Windows 10 build 14279, was recently rolled out for Windows Insider beta testers.

Within hours following the release, several tech websites reported that the update caused a handful of issues on Microsoft's flagship devices, including the Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 3 and the Surface Book. Some users reported that after installing the new update, owners of the mentioned devices noticed that the trackpad, touchscreen and the Type Cover keyword are not functioning.

If there is a silver lining to this issue, it would be the fact that only Windows Insider Fast Ring users were affected by the problem, according to Techno Buffalo. These group of users are those who get the latest Windows 10 updates ahead of the general public. Their main purpose is to beta test the updates to make sure that there are no bugs or loopholes before being mass rolled out.

The tech giant said that it is already aware of the problem and is working out on a solution to fix it. The Redmond-based tech company said that a permanent fix for the problem will be rolled out within the near future.

In order to temporarily fix the issue before the permanent fix is rolled out, Microsoft issued a quick workaround. Affected Surface owners are advised to press and hold the power button in order to initiate a hard-reboot.

In a statement acquired by Express, Microsoft corporate vice president of engineering systems team Gabe Aul said, "We're investigating an issue in which some Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book devices experience a freeze or hand and all input such as keyboard/trackpad and touch do not work. The workaround is to hold down the power button to force the device to hard-reboot.|

The bug was discovered following several delays that bugged the highly publicized upcoming Windows 10 update dubbed RedStone.

Microsoft claims that Windows 10 is the company's operating system with the fastest adoption rate. As of December 2015, Microsoft claims that it has received at least 200 million Windows 10 activations.
