"Far Cry Primal" is the latest addition to the widely successful action-adventure video game franchise developed by Ubisoft. The game was released on Feb. 23 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. The Windows PC version of the game will hit shelves on March 1.

"Far Cry Primal" is unlike any other installment in the series. The game is set in the Stone Age where most inhabitants of the Earth are hunters and gatherers. The main story of the game revolves around Takkar and follows his rise from an unarmed hunter to tribal leader, according to PC Gamer.

Set in 10,000 BC around the Mesolithic period, "Far Car Primal" takes gamers to the fiction Oros valley. An open world setting filled with prehistoric creatures such as the saber-toothed tiger and mammoths.

Aside from these wild beasts that roam the open world of "Far Cry Primal," gamers are also pitted against other tribes in a prehistoric battle for survival.

While many video game critics praised the concept of "Far Cry Primal," some pointed that the same formula has been done before by other video games, albeit in a different setting.

For some critics, "Far Cry Primal" is a just a tweaked iteration of the tested and proved "Far Cry 3" formula which combines open-world first-person hunting with character leveling and base-raiding concepts. "Far Cry Primal" also has the hauntingly familiar grappling hook weapon which was borrowed from "Far Cry 4."

"Far Cry Primal," for some, is just a mashed up game that combines elements from its predecessors, only this time instead of guns and grenades, players use primitive weapons like bow and arrows.

According to Kotaku, the only unique addition to "Far Cry Primal" is the ability that allows players to tame and pet wild animals. This is a new feature in the series, the ability to tame beasts and summon them to help defeat enemies. While this feature is completely new in the "Far Cry" series, it had already been utilized by a different Ubisoft game in the past, "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood."

For content hungry gamers, "Far Cry Primal" has a decent storyline and a wide range of side quests to keep gamers busy for at least 30 hours. While the storyline campaign is almost satisfying, the game may have hidden gems that buried deep within its side quests.
