After the shutdown of torrent sites like The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, ExtraTorrent.cc, online streaming sites seemed to be next target. However, it now being reported that Google has been having a hard time dealing with streaming pirates.

Pirate streaming sites and related services have been increasingly becoming popular over the past years. From infringing movies down to popular TV series, these sites have become the perfect and easier alternative to torrent sites.

As a result of such proliferation online, copyright holders sent takedown requests targeting illegal videos on Google's servers, according to Torrent Freak. However, despite the millions of request being sent, activities as such still continues.

Pirate sites are still able to make some workaround with the current Google setup. By means of using some tricks, pirate site operators were able to find a way to stream videos directly from Google Drive and various other sources.

By streaming directly from Googlevideo.com domain, pirate sites owners are given a more convenient hosting platform. The "hash matching" method being used by Google to detect and block pirated contents seemed to be not working when it comes to pirated videos from entering its servers.

With the millions of takedown request being sent to Google and with the inquiry of some media platforms, Google revealed that they will look into the matter at hand. After sweeping their own servers, a follow-up crackdown for other prominent online streaming sites might commence.

As of the current writing, 2017 offers many alternatives to torrent sites for movies. Sites like Solarmovie, Gomovies.to, and the likes remain to be part of the top 30 free movie streaming sites, according to Info Geekers.

Such blatant operation of these pirate sites marks a big challenge not only for Google but for authorities to suppress. However, unlike the actions against Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, ExtraTorrent.cc, taking down pirate movies sites may take some time and more effort to perform.
