The latest clue about the Pixel XXL (codenamed Taimen) was delivered via a Geekbench result that showed the handset scoring 1804 at single-core testing and 6248 at multi-core stress benchmarking. The figures, according to WCCFTech, are close to the same Geekbench results extracted from the Samsung Galaxy S8, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and OnePlus 5 due to a common denominator. All Android flagships are fired up by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The benchmarking doc also confirmed that the SD 835 on the Pixel phone will spin at top speed of 1.90GHz in 8-core configuration, indicating Google will not scrimp on firepower for the next-generation Pixel handsets. But it remains to be seen if SD 835 will be the standard for all Pixel 2017 models, meaning the processor is the chip of choice for the Pure Android flagship across the board.

No further details for Pixel XXL were included in the report but rumors claims the handset were realized will take the place of the Nexus 7 tablet. There were talks the largest of the Pixel 2 line is basically a smartphone but with hybrid functionalities. Owing to the device's rumored extra-large screen, it seems safe to assume that Google will include some tablet functionalities with the Pixel XXL.

The device is also seen as Google's answer to the emerging supersized phablet, suggesting that the finalized Taimen is designed to compete in the premium mid-range phablet market that is currently dominated by the likes of Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro and C9 Pro, the Oppo R9 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

However, the advantage is on the side of the Pixel XXL if indeed the device will boast of SD 835 chip and 4GB RAM support as the same specifications will be not be found on the competition. And likely to further play in favor of the Nexus 7 sequel is the fact that on release date the handset will rock and the be the first to roll Android 0 or version 8.0 of Google's mobile OS.

To be sure, Android O will take some time before arriving on rival handsets of the Pixel XXL, and more so in Stock Android version.
