While this discovery is promising, further studies are needed. There are still some practical problems and significant challenges to overcome.

"The next stage would be to repeat the study in primates, a more suitable animal model where HIV infection induces disease, in order to further demonstrate the elimination of HIV-1 DNA. Here, we demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of excising the HIV-1 provirus in three different animal models," co-senior study investigator Kamel Khalilias said.

The discovery, which introduces the excision of HIV-1 proviral DNA in solid tissues or organs, is a significant step towards a promising outcome. With the clinical trials ahead, HIV cure and prevention may be strengthened and improved.

This news would increase the hopes of people suffering the said illness worldwide. The global statistics of the said disease has reached an alarming 36.7 million people.

To help remedy the increasing cases of HIV and AIDS worldwide, the information drive has increased in the past years. People of different races and status in the society are being armed with useful information to avoid contracting such disease.
