Apple is confirmed to release three new iPhone models later this 2017 with the most premium of the bunch to be called iPhone Edition but currently referred to as iPhone 8. The next iOS flagship will boast of a radical redesign from the last three iterations.

Bloomberg's Apple insider Mark Gurman reported this week that "Apple is preparing three iPhones for launch as soon as this fall, including upgraded versions of the current two iPhone models and a new top-of-the-line handset with an overhauled look." All three will run on iOS 11 that is set to be unveiled on June 5 via the 2017 WWDC.

As rumored, the iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition will unbox with an OLED panel but not the curved type as earlier claimed. Instead, the next iPhone will have a curved glass material that will be found on the front and rear panels of the device, Gurman claimed. The glass back panel appears to have been intended for the device to feature wireless charging.

The same report revealed Apple has tested numerous prototypes for the iPhone 8 and the finalized build and design ended up with a subtly curved glass both on the front and back. The chassis will be made of stainless steel, a decision made to cut down the manufacturing cost.

On the camera setup, the rear shooter will have dual-lens that will be rendered vertically instead of the usual horizontal. It's possible too that the front camera will be equipped with dual-lens but this is far from confirmed. Gurman did not mention a megapixel bump on this respect though, indicating that the next iPhone camera combo will remain 12MP on the main and 8MP on the secondary.

The Bloomberg report also floated the likelihood of the iPhone 8 skipping the Touch ID feature as it was suggested that Apple engineers are struggling to embed the fingerprint sensor with the all-screen OLED panel.

But in order to compensate, the iPhone Edition will unbox with extended battery life, thanks largely to the possible use of 10-nanometer processing chip.

As for the iPhone 7S, Gurman said the two handsets in the series "will continue to use liquid crystal display technology and come in the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes as last year's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus."

Bloomberg likewise echoed the earlier forecast from analysts that while the iPhone 7S series will arrive as usual following Apple's September 2017 intro, there is a high chance that the iPhone 8 release date will be delayed. "Supply constraints could mean the device isn't readily available until one or two months after the typical fall introduction," Gurman wrote.
