Sony's new high-fidelity turntable converts vinyl records into High-Res audio files, including the Japanese company's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) format, requiring only a personal computer and USB cable. The PS-HX500 model continues the trend during the past few years as old-school record players have been making a comeback, including a few throwback units at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Sony provides the backup-making software for PCs and Macs. After converting favorite tunes to a digital format, the DSD copies can be sent to a High-Res Sony Walkman and enjoyed without MP3 interference, according to The Verge.

The PS-HX500 turntable is a basic black box. It will be sold in the United States starting in Spring 2016, although there has been no official news about the price tag of the retro record player.

The new tech might seem convoluted. It might not seem to make sense to transfer analog records to a Hi-Res format.

However, The Verge points out the brand blending that takes place in the process. It converts old-school vinyl records to Sony's DSD brand.

Sony introduced other brand new audio products at its CES 2016 press conference on January 5, Tuesday. They include new speakers and headphones, as well as an LED light bulb that can play music.

The company's h.ear series headphones will get two new wireless models. They include the Wireless earbuds and Wireless NC.

In fact, the new video products at Sony's press conference were not big news, including new televisions and 4K video items. The company's new Ultra app allows people to buy 4K streaming movies and TV shows from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Finally, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai reported that 5.7 million PlayStation 4 units were sold during the holiday season, according to CNET. That brings the gaming console's sales figures to 40 million units since its North American launch in November 2013.
