Imminent OnePlus 5 Release as Leaked Details Suggest of Huge Design Makeover, Specs Bumps?

What's the next flagship killer from OnePlus will be like? The latest leaks suggest of a major revamp in terms of industrial design and a big jump in hardware specifications. And from the OnePlus 3T, the Chinese device maker will supposedly roll out the OnePlus 5.

Citing China-based sources, Droid Life added its voice to the chatter that instead of OnePlus 4 it is the OnePlus 5 that will be unpacked soon. But the same report stopped short of providing the release date details, which likely will be timed for summer or as early as June 2017 like in previous releases from the line.

And when the device is unboxed, it will boast of an all-screen front panel that obviously is OnePlus taking a direct page from the flagship playbook used by Samsung with the Galaxy S8, which in turn is likewise expected with Apple's iPhone 8 release later this 2017. As a result of the redesign, the next OnePlus will lack the physical home button and the fingerprint sensor relocated on the rear of the device.

It will be nearly the same design language as the GS8 from Samsung but as pointed out by BGR, the fingerprint reader on the OnePlus 5 will be placed right below the device's rear camera lens that is centrally positioned. The same report pointed to a mockup image of the OnePlus 5 from PCPop.com to support its claim.

As for the inside components, the OnePlus 5 will retain its flagship killer reputation by using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 as the device main engine with support coming from a whopping amount of RAM, set at 8GB to upgrade from the OnePlus 3T's 6GB RAM provision.

Droid Life said the OnePlus 5 will be trimmed down to just 7mm of depth, which likely explains its battery rating of just 3000mAh. The device screen will stretch 5.5-inch diagonally and the main camera will be equipped with 23MP shooter, also laced with optical zoom and optical image stabilization.

It is expected that on release date, the OnePlus 5 will priced considerably lower than the industry leaders but the exact pricing was not included in the leaked detail. But a safe guess would be between $500 and $600 per unit or way below the starting price for Apple's iPhone 7.
