Pure Android used to be a territory by Nexus and Moto handsets then Google Pixel took over last year. This 2017, Android fans can look beyond Nexus and Pixel smartphones as HMD Global will reportedly soon release the Nokia 9 flagship that will boast of premium specifications with Pure Android running the show.

HMD has already revealed the Nokia 3, 5 and 6, which are all mid-range devices. But the Finnish device maker is said to unveil soon its flagship bet in the form of the Nokia 9 (not Nokia 8 as suggested in earlier reports). The device will scream of high-end specifications inside and out, WCCFTech reported.

Most notable of the leaked specs provided is the inclusion of Carl Zeiss lens branding that will be packaged with the 22-megapixel rear shooter, the report added. On the front, it will be a 12MP selfie-optimized image and video recorder.

The Nokia 9, as earlier reported by Nokia Power User, will unbox with a 5.5-inch OLED display that will render in QHD resolution. The device battery pack has a rating of 3800mAh (if true will be higher than the 6.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus) with waterproofing feature that is IP68 certified.

The device is designed too for optimal audio entertainment experience, WCCFTech said. "The highlight for the Nokia 9 will be Nokia OZO Audio. OZO audio builds upon 3D sound and is primed to provide the perfect surround sound experience on your headphones," the report added.

But what could prove as the biggest attraction for the Nokia 9 is its maker promise to keep the device's Android OS in the stock realm. That means the Nokia 9 and all Android-powered Nokia devices will get near Pure Android treatment, in this case Android Nougat in native build.

It's unlikely that the Nokia handsets will be close replicas of Nexus and Pixel phones but with Pure Android the overall mobile experience will be the next best thing. Per HMD, all Android Nokia models will get firmware updates as fast as time will permit.

If HMD Global can follow through on its commitment then the Nokia 9 is potentially serious contender to go against Samsung's GS8 and GS8+, and perhaps reason enough to forget about any of the Nexus or Pixel phones from Google.
