Tropical cyclone Debbie had severely hit the state of Queensland bringing in heavy rains that resulted in the flash flooding of some coastal towns, including Ayr. After the heavy flooding, a bull shark which was carried by the flood had been left dead on a street.

Reports from the Fire and Emergency Services of Queensland revealed that the 1.5-meter long bull shark was washed up by the floodwaters on March 30. The tropical cyclone Debbie had poured in more than 20 inches of rain, resulting in the flooding of many areas. This is not unlikely because bull sharks in Australia inhabit waterways, particularly the Burdekin River.

An Australian research biologist, John Carlson had previously shared with Live Science that bull sharks are able to live in freshwater. They do this by regulating the salt in their bodies thru the salt glands that serve as the balancer of the salt concentration.

The heavy rains caused the rapid rise of the river water to a high level of 9.5 meters. With the sea water meeting the river water, the bull shark had gone out of its course when carried away by the torrent. In the midst of the flooding incidents, no less than 5,600 calls for help were received by the Queensland Emergency Services.

The floods brought fear for people to lose their lives. More than this, the floods also brought in fear for wildlife that may have been carried by the floods such as crocodiles and snakes. According to the Environment and Heritage Protection Department, crocodiles and snakes will also evacuate to safer places and that is probably under the shelter of people's houses.
