Finalized iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Remains Unreleased as 32-bit iPhones, iPads Gain Fresh Route to Jailbreaking?

There is a new bug that potentially will allow jailbreaking from nearly all available iOS firmware versions to iOS 9.x. The exploit will open the door to a downgrade path from iOS firmware versions 6, 8, 9 and 10 so long as the devices are 32-bit. Then to jailbreak, users can pick between Home Depot and Pangu9.

The new report from iDownloadBlog.com is most helpful for iPhone and iPad users that either got stuck with iOS 9.3.5 and earlier firmware versions or would want to take back route from iOS 10.x. But it has to be made clear that the exploit, dubbed by the report as iOS 9.x Re-store bug, will only work on 32-bit devices so a 64-bit solution is certainly out of the question.

Essentially, the bug when used will permit downgrading from iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 10.x (though it's unclear if it works for iOS 10.3) to lower iOS 9.x firmware. Or when coming from earlier iOS releases, the same tool will also make possible jumping from iOS versions 6 and 8 to firmware 9.x. It was unclear though why iOS 7 is not covered by the bug at this time.

According to the same report, the bug is currently being tweaked by a group of developers but iDB mentioned that initial tests led to desired results. For one, iDB said an iPad 2 that was on iOS 9.3.5 was successfully downgraded and jailbroken, and now runs on Home Deport iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak tool.

However, it is important to note a few things prior to using the bug. Foremost is that restoring from starting firmware does not require a jailbreak, meaning downgrading from Apple's official iOS release can be performed without issues.

And when picking the destination firmware, users need to make sure they have the save blobs for the iOS versions. For example, if the choice is iOS 9.3.4 then blobs on the version will come handy in time for the actual jailbreaking process. Otherwise, the procedure will not commence.

So while waiting for the finalized version of the tool, which iDB said will likely be provided anytime this April, would-be users are advised to save blobs on their targeted firmware versions. The report added that an iOS 9.3.5 jailbreak from FriedAppleTeam is rumored to come out soon, thus saving blobs now on the firmware version, which Apple is still signing, is highly recommended.
