Samsung has finally unveiled its newest smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S8, and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Here are some of the official features, specifications, and prices comparison of the new devices to know which is best to buy.

Design & Display

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch display respectively. The Galaxy S8 added 0.7-inches of screen space while S8 Plus is bigger and heavier than S7 Edge. Samsung maintained IP68 water and dust resistance, and microSD expandable storage up to 256GB.

The devices also retained the glass back but do not have a home button on the front. The device also has glossy aluminum chassis, rounded corners displays, and a fingerprint reader at the back. Also, the device is available in Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, and Midnight Black.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will have a 12 megapixel and f/1.7 aperture shooter. Also, the devices will be upgraded with 8-megapixel sensors. The device can now be used to capture multiple shots of objects and stitches them together.

Performance

In the US, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset, and Adreno 540 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. While in Europe and Asia, the smartphones will have Exynos 8895, and ARM Mali-G71 MP20 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. 

A 6GB of RAM variant will also be released in the Asian market, but Samsung has no plan to release it in the US or Europe as of the moment.

The Bluetooth 5.0 is also available on both devices. It has 2x speed and 4x range of Bluetooth 4.2.

Software

Samsung added more software to both the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Among these are, Samsung Pass, a security log-in tool; Samsung Connect, an Internet of Things hub; and of course Bixby, a new virtual assistant. The devices will operate on Android 7.0 Nougat and will be upgraded to the Android 7.1 Nougat soon.

Battery Life

After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung has been very careful to make its battery safe. The Galaxy S8 battery capacity is 3000mAh like the Galaxy S7, and the Galaxy S8 Plus battery capacity is 3500mAh like Galaxy S7 Edge. According to Samsung, the new batteries of the Galaxies are safe, thanks to a new eight-Point Quality Check.

Price and Storage

The prices of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus depends on the storage. The Samsung Galaxy S8 with 64GB will cost about $750 (€799 or £689), while the Galaxy S8 Plus with 64GB will be $850 (€899 or £779). Best Buy lists the device as $725 and $825 respectively.

Pre-orders are now open with retail availability on April 21 in US and Asia, and April 28 in most parts of Europe. Cheaper Best Buy prices will be available on May.
