The release date of Ubisoft's highly anticipated "Assassin's Creed Empire" as the next entry in the franchise will reportedly take place in October 2017. Meanwhile, an image which has been circulating on the web for quite some time appears to be a fake one.

However, following the widespread reports of this accidental leak, the said website has now been updated. The game listing is now showing a Q4 2017 release window, which is in line with Ubisoft's long tradition of releases of its AC games.

Seasoned gamers apparently know that the annual releases of the franchise has normally taken place in the fourth quarter, between mid-October and November. This was the case for the numbered games in the series, "Assassin's Creed 3" and "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag," which were released in the months of October.

Moreover, a leaked image is also making rounds online, which further supports claim that the game will be set in Ancient Egypt. In the screenshot, the purported game protagonist is seen standing in front of the a ruin or temple door.

However, the content head of "Assassin's Creed" Aymar Azaizia recently proved this image to be fake. In a Reddit AmA, Azaizia simply said that it is not AC when fans asked about the authenticity of the leaked photo.

Other speculations with regard to "Assassin's Creed Empire" suggest that the new game's map will be three times bigger than "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag" and will indeed take place in ancient Egypt. Additionally, the game will be single player-focused that will feature the lead character who is a darker Egyptian slave and ancestor of Altair.

"Assassin's Creed Empire" is rumored to be under development by Ubisoft Montreal which also brought "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag." Stay tuned for more news and updates.
