Newly leaked details on the AMD Radeon RX Vega indicate that development cycle work on the GPU family is approaching the final stage, somehow hinting that release date is happening anytime soon. Rumors say the powerful graphics card series will debut sometime between May and June 2017.

Radeon RX Vega, according to WCCFTech, is codenamed GFX9, which is in keeping with the GPU naming convention used by AMD in the past. As the report noted, Hawaii was nicknamed GFX7 while Polaris while being developed was known internally as GFX8 so it was hardly surprising that for the Vega architecture, AMD engineers picked GFX9.

Pointing to the latest leaked details picked up from Videocardz, the same report said RX Vega appears to be nearing the end of its development cycle. This possibility was suggested by the supposed device IDs for Vega 10 that also showed there will be 7 Vega 10 GPUs to come out with the RX Vega specifically identified as the 687f graphics card.

Going by the leaked details, WCCFTech maintained its earlier take that the RX Vega will be manufactured on the 14nm FinFET node and will hit the market with 8GB of HBM2 memory chip. That latter means the GPU will boast of 2048-bit bus width.

The same report also touched on the Polaris 12, which will be part of the RX 500 series. Polaris 12 will complete the GPU architectures that will be in play for the RX 500 push by AMD, which consist of the Polaris 20 and 21. All are rebrands of the Polaris platform that powered the RX 400 cards.

For the RX 500, AMD is believed to bring to the market the RX 550, RX 560, RX 570 and RX 580. The latter will serve as the most premium variant and is seen to sell for no more than $199.

The RX 500 release date is likely happening in early April while the RX Vega will debut a few months after or no later than June 2017, as mentioned above. It is important to note that while Vega and Polaris are "two overarching architectures," the Radeon RX Vega is certainly not part of the RX 500 series.
