Reports have surfaced of the setbacks that AMD is presently facing. Claims have surfaced that  LG and Vizio are copying the patents and that AMD might take some legal measures to protect its rights.

Engadget reported some of the rumors. According to the report, AMD is one of the few remaining companies with a big stake in graphics hardware (it's powering the PS4 and Xbox One in addition to PCs), and it's determined to hold onto that stake however it can.

In the wake of an earlier filing, the US International Trade Commission has agreed to investigate LG, MediaTek, Sigma Designs and Vizio for allegedly violating AMD's graphics patents and allegedly, the visual processing in their devices (including phones, mobile CPUs and TVs) treads on AMD's concepts for unified graphics shaders and parallel graphics pipelines, reports the same post.

It is also relayed that AMD wants to implement the sales ban on any offending products. Meanwhile, despite the patent crisis, it was also reported that AMD's profits have jumped. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices jumped 7 percent on Monday after a pair of Wall Street analysts issued positive notes about the company's new line of microchips.

But, those short-term worries are unfounded because of CEO Lisa Su's strategy of offering comparable or better performance with competing Intel chips at a fraction of Intel's prices, Jeffries analyst Mark Lipacis wrote on Monday in a note and he raised his target price on AMD to $16 from $13, the post further added.

As for the claims, it remains unverified as to how far AMD would go through to protect its assets. As for the rumors of suing other firms such as LG and Vizio, it should be taken with a grain of salt in mind.
