BioWare has already revealed huge chunks of info regarding "Mass Effect Andromeda," but the game developer has yet to reveal the mechanics of its multiplayer mode.

However, a few selected players got their chance to try the latest "Mass Effect" multiplayer gameplay at PAX East 2017. The initial reviews of the game's multiplayer mode were positive, with some citing similarities with the franchise's earlier installment.

PC Gamer was among the first group to experience the "Mass Effect Andromeda" multiplayer preview at PAX East. According to their review, the horde mode will pit the players against seven waves of enemy units.

Specifically, the enemies will attack a small outpost that the players should protect. They will try to overrun this outpost as they increase in number and difficulty. This will not only be a matter of survival as specific rounds include objectives that the players should follow.

For example, the group of survivors would have to locate four transmitters and disable them in Wave 3. In Wave 6, players would need to guard three control points from the enemies. These additions make the multiplayer mode more challenging and also prevent the players from getting bored from the repetitive horde of enemies.

Long-time fans of the series also noticed that many elements of "Mass Effect 3" multiplayer are adopted by the special game mode of "Mass Effect Andromeda." As reviewed by Twinfinite, the beginning of the multiplayer mode is reminiscent of the earlier "Mass Effect" installment, especially with how the waves of enemies grow in number and power.

This can be seen as a plus point for the latest title, as "ME3" multiplayer mode received positive feedback back then. The latest take on the "Mass Effect Andromeda" multiplayer round boasts several improvements over "Mass Effect 3."

For one, players are given new abilities such as creating explosions together as a group. Also, players can now use a lifted enemy to power up their weapons. If their ammunition is already depleted, managing to survive one wave will grant players with item packs or in-game currencies. Another interesting addition to the previous "Mass Effect" multiplayer mode is the jet pack, allowing players to launch themselves up and land to a safer location.
