Finalized iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Still Not in Sight – Instead Luca Todesco Cracks Open Nintendo Switch

Yalu102 jailbreak creator Luca Todesco has yet to finalize his crack on Apple's iOS 10.2 release but it appears that the dev was busy on something else. Todesco just announced the successful modification of the recently launched Nintendo Switch.

The Switch, according to Gizmodo, has been spotted running on a jailbreak tool that is identical to the iOS 9.xx solution authored by the Chinese hacking Team Pangu. Todesco made use of the same exploit that was found on iOS 9.3.5.

Todesco's jailbreak was made possible thanks to a Nintendo Switch feature that allows users to connect the console on their Facebook or Twitter accounts. What the dev did was to command the Switch OS to render web pages instead, thus giving him the opening for the jailbreak.

The key was the WebKit exploit found on both the iOS 9.xx and the Nintendo Switch operating system. However, the Switch crack presented by Todesco is far from being useful to modders given its current form.

At best, the jailbreak provides promise that Todesco will decide to continue on the work to later on give Nintendo Switch users greater access on the hybrid gaming machine. And there will be so many possibilities to follow. Or someone else will pick up from where Todesco's work is pointing.

But, it's clear that the jailbreak remains a work in progress. Gizmodo said that technically the Switch crack is a security threat but the report made clear that breach is only possible if one has physical access to the console. So users have nothing serious to worry for now except that hopefully the Nintendo Switch game library will pile up at a faster rate.

Also according to WCCFTech, the Todesco root access to the Nintendo Switch will need developers support for the jailbreak to really benefit users. "There is no developer working on stuff that comes after achieving the jailbreak. So this means there are no tweaks, no emulators, no software, basically nothing," the report said.

To begin with, Todesco has made no commitment to at least make the jailbreak public or finalize the tool in the same way that he promises to soon complete the Yalu102 iOS 10.2 jailbreak, the same report noted.
