There will be a Galaxy Note 8 release and it will likely happen in the second half of 2017, that's according to Samsung. But before rolling out the next-gen phablet flagship, the South Korean tech giant intends to resurrect the Galaxy Note 7 in refurbished packaging.

Speculations are rife that the millions of recalled Note 7 units will not be destroyed by Samsung. Instead, the Galaxy flagship maker will fix the jumbo Android flagships, stuff them with smaller and safer batteries and sell them at a cheaper sticker price. Earlier reports have indicated the refurbished Note 7s will make their way to emerging markets soon.

But now SamMobile is reporting that Samsung will reintroduce the Galaxy Note 7 in South Korea. "Samsung is working on a refurbished Note 7 for the South Korean market, with the device to possibly feature model number SM-N935," the report added.

When exactly the Note 7's market return, the report did not mention.

But the bigger news is Samsung's rumored sequel to the ill-fated 2017 phablet flagship, which is believed to take the name Galaxy Note 8. SamMobile said the device is already in the works and is in fact being referred to internally as "Great" with the model number SM-950F.

While the report was short on new Note 8 details, the claim makes sense as the Galaxy S8 is practically a done deal with the device intro set to happen before the end of March and the actual release date to follow anytime from April 21, this 2017. Essentially, Samsung can now focus on the Note 8.

What are the new things to expect from device remains unknown but for starters, Samsung will want to erase the bad memories associated with the Note 7 by making quite an impression with the Galaxy Note 8.

To be sure, the Note 8 will attempt to put one over the rumored Apple iPhone 8. Reports claimed the latter will have a 5.8-inch curved OLED display and an all-screen profile so it's fair to assume that Samsung will at least match the feature and specs upgrades of its chief rival.

And as the iPhone 8 is expected to come out as early as September this year, Samsung will likely intro the Galaxy Note 8 in the same month via the Berlin IFA 2107 trade show with the actual release date possibly set in October.
