With Samsung's release of tablets during the Mobile World Congress 2017, they also made an announcement of their partnership with pencil maker Staedtler. They are working to make a stylus - an S-Pen which looks like a Noris pencil. The pencils are backwards compatible which can be used on all Samsung stylus-supported devices.

Specifically, the S-Pen was designed to work well with the Galaxy Book and Galaxy Tab S3. Aside from the nostalgic value of the S-Pen design, the ergonomics behind it plays well for users who are having a hard time in using smaller styluses. The Staedtler-inspired S-Pen looks and feels like a number two Noris pencil.

The Staedtler S-Pen has 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, which can basically do everything a normal stylus can. It can also work on the tablet even if the screen is off which enables memo storage. It also allows digital annotation of PDF's and outlining of screenshots. When pushed nib-on, the rubber stylus gives the feel of a graphite on paper. But when used on the side, it is slippery to glide through.

With a 0.7mm rubber stylus, the S-Pen feels like a pencil, which is easy to hold and use. Critics believe that Samsung's inspiration with this new stylus is actually its rival Apple's "Apple Pencil." Obviously, the new S-Pen is the answer against the Apple Pencil introduced with the iPad Pro series.

However, the actual release date of the new Staedtler S-Pen is yet to be known. It won't be hitting the shelves yet, but the partnership between Samsung and Staedtler promise that they will provide the ergonomically-friendly stylus any time soon.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Book, it made quite a buzz on the MWC that it already has overtaken the fame of Surface Pro. As for the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S8, it is confirmed that it will be released on March 29 in London and New York.
