Final Fantasy 15 is an open world action role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home consoles. The game features an open-world environment and action-based battle system similar to the Kingdom Hearts series, incorporating the ability to switch weapons and other elements such as vehicle travel and camping.

In a new interview with Polygon, Tabata states that he and rest of the development team are finding the Switch "fascinating" because of its console/handheld design, especially since he's worked on a number of handheld and console titles over the years.

However, the director also says that while he would be interested in coming up with ideas to "capitalize" on the Switch's technology, he admits that he's not quite there yet before revealing that he currently doesn't have any handheld projects in the works, possibly alluding to a Final Fantasy 15 port.

Hajime Tabata made a name for himself as the director of Square Enix portable games like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Type-O. With Switch being a hybrid console/portable device, it would seemingly be right up Tabata's alley.

Given that rumors swirling around that the Switch's hardware is not on par with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it certainly appears that porting Final Fantasy 15 over to the Big N's upcoming console would be going in the opposite direction of what Tabata initially intended from a technological perspective.

You can read Polygon's full interview with Tabata here; it primarily focuses on Final Fantasy XV's future, which includes a cooperative multiplayer mode (complete with character creation), among other things.
