Chinese tech giant Xiaomi was present at the MWC 2016 event where it unveiled a lot of new handsets last year. This year, it is expected to introduce the Mi 6 at MWC 2017.

However, according to reports, Xiaomi will skip the event this year. The company's spokesperson confirmed this and explained that it is not yet ready to launch any device at MWC 2017.

"Samsung isn't the only major phone maker who won't be announcing a new device at Mobile World Congress, next month. Xiaomi will skip the event entirely, a spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch," said the publication.

February is near and the excitement for the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) is building up. Numerous major OEMs such as LG, Samsung, Huawei, Sony and HTC have sent out invitations and scheduled their press events where they will announce new mobile devices for this year.

It is speculated that Xiaomi will launch three Mi6 models such as the Mi6 Standard, Mi6 Lite and Mi6 Pro. Sony may also integrate a 12 megapixel sensor-supported rear camera and a 4 megapixel front snapper on the handset.

When it comes to design, the handset will be cased in metal with a home button where its fingerprint sensor will be embedded. An OLED surface will likely be placed as well. The phone's RAM might range from 4 GB to 6 GB with 128 GB to 256 GB of memory storage.

Previous Xiaomi devices had HD screens and the big leap to Ultra HD is quite questionable. Since the mobile industry is focusing on VR support right now, the Xiaomi Mi6 will likely come with a Quad HD instead.

This is more apt for VR support and can still offer a full HD picture. One of the Mi 6 versions could come with the new Snapdragon 835 processor while the other one could be based on MediaTek's Helio X30. Qualcomm has just launched the octa-core Snapdragon 835 which is a 10nm processor. It improves functionality by 30 percent in terms of efficiency, 40 percent in terms of sustainability and 27 percent in terms of performance. The high-end version might have a dual-curve design like that of the Mi Note 2.

The mobile industry is also trending towards dual-curved edges and Xiaomi Mi6 could just come with the same feature. With the highly-efficient Snapdragon processor onboard, it may need a Quick Charge 4.0 support that can supply about five hours of power for only five minutes of charging.
