Barely a month before LG G6 is officially unveiled, reports have emerged that it may sport a non-removable battery. If these reports are true, then it would be for the first time that LG has opted for a non-removable battery for its flagship phone.

The LG G6 would be unveiled for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

The South Korean giant reportedly made the decision to skip the removable battery feature to make the flagship more water resistant.

LG for long has prided itself in offering a removable battery in all its flagship phones, including the G5 phone that was launched last year. This particular feature has distinguished LG's phones from those of its main rivals like Apple and Samsung.

However, analysts have noted that the G5's removable battery feature proved to be a commercial failure, as it hardly did anything to spike up the sales of the phone.

LG has now pinned up all its expectations on the G6, especially in the wake of its declining market share. The company has moved out of the top five smartphone players, controlling a mere 3.9 percent of the world's market share over the first nine months of last year, according to IDC.

In fact, the company's mobile division suffered its largest quarterly loss during third quarter of the last year. It recorded a staggering loss of $389.4 million in the period between July and September of last year.

Industry experts say that LG is facing pressure from both ends. It is finding it difficult to compete with Apple and Samsung in the premium segment, while Chinese companies like OPPO and Xiaomi are increasingly putting pressure on LG in the budget segment.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife about LG G6's specifications. Rumors suggest that the flagship phone may come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB of RAM. It may also run on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box.
