It appears that Capcom published a hit with a reported 2.5 million shipped units for "Resident Evil 7." The company apparently took their chances by changing the third-person or over-the-shoulder view formula of the series, and switching to a first-person experience. Meanwhile, their decision to also include a VR feature in the survival horror title is reportedly drawing success.

In their Global Stats website for "Resident Evil 7," Capcom displays regularly updating numbers related to the game. Reports explain that the numbers are generated by players who have agreed to connect online and share information with the publisher.

The latest numbers indicate an estimated close to 800,000 gamers are playing the latest game from the franchise, reports Game Rant. One of the most interesting data gleaned from the website shows how many are playing with VR.

As of writing, there are a total of 73,811 users playing with the feature activated. Knowing that the game is released across three platforms, the numbers are obviously referring to PS4 users with their virtual reality headset. Taking into account the number of units the game has shipped worldwide and the individuals who do not connect online, reports suggest a possible estimate of over 250,000 players enjoying the gameplay with the feature activated.

The numbers reported above are apparently based on assumption of a best case scenario. However, looking at it differently, the 2.5 million units shipped does not necessarily mean units sold. The gamers who choose to stay offline are probably not interested to play added gimmicks. Some reviews of the game claim it is definitely frightening even in its regular first person view. Thus, it is understandably going to be terrifying with the virtual reality headset.

Engadget claims the release version of the VR feature in "Resident Evil 7" is more refined that the "E3" demo. Reports say the latest entry carries everything the series is known for, but properly transitioned into the first-person category of videogames. The game is currently available for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 With Playstation VR support.
