Having AI on smartphones was pioneered by Apple's Siri. However, it seems that due to lack of updates, Apple has been left behind in the battle of AIs, as Google Assistant, Cortana, and Alexa appear to have overtaken Siri. Therefore, an "enhanced Siri" may just be needed for Apple's comeback.

Other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Huawei, and Xiaomi have been open in their intentions to add an artificial intelligence to their future smartphones.

Apple once flaunted its AI assistant named Siri - the first of its kind without any competition during the early years. However, other tech firms would not let themselves fall behind, as more AIs have emerged in the market.

Cortana was introduced by Microsoft, while Amazon brought Alexa. Then, there came Google Assistant which was released together with Google Pixel phones. Given this developments, the AI market seems to have forgotten Siri - so an enhanced Siri will have to make a comeback.

Apple's acquisition of Turi may indicate that the tech giant aims to create a better version of its AI system. The enhanced Siri is expected to appear on the next line of iPhones by 2017 and beyond.

On the other hand, Samsung is rumored to be working on an AI assistant dubbed as Bixby which may be featured in its next flagship devices. Huawei may also be working to get Alexa pre-installed on its phones, while LG is said to be in talks to have Google Assistant and Alexa across its products like home appliances and smartphones.

The enhanced Siri may also work with an Echo-like device that can be used in a user's home just Alexa.
