Xiaomi sold an eye-popping 250,000 units of Redmi Note 4 on Flipkart and Mi.com 10 minutes after it went on sale last Monday (Jan. 23), making it the "biggest smartphone sale in the history" of India.

The Chinese smartphone maker said that the sale saw more than three times and five times the quantity sold on the first sales of Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 3, respectively.

Xiaomi also said that the Redmi Note 4's 'Notify Me' requests exceeded the one million mark within five days following the official announcement. Moreover, both sites have reportedly gained five million unique visitors.

"We are really thankful to everyone for making the first sale of Redmi Note 4 a great success. We are extremely ambitious about this product and it gives me immense joy to start the year with such acceptance and love for Remi Note 4," Manu Jain, Head of Xiaomi India, said.

He further added that the record-high figure motivates the team not only to make the units readily available for all its fans but also to create a memorable Redmi Note 4 experience in India.

The all new Redmi Note 4 is the successor of the renowned Redmi Note 3, which also snatched the most shipped smartphone in India's online market for any given quarter, according to IDC.

The Redmi Note 4 will hit the shelves again on Jan. 30 on both online shopping sites. The phone comes in three variants including the 2GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage for Rs 9,999 ($150); 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage for Rs 10,999 ($165); and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for Rs 12,999 ($190).

The Redmi Note 4 boasts of a solid metal body, processor performance boost, and improved camera compared with its predecessor. It has a 5.5-inch full-HD display and is run by the Snapdragon 625 SoC.

Talking about the camera, Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4 boasts of a 13-megapixel rear cam with dual LED flash, while the front has a 5-megapixel sensor. Its battery capacity is 4,100mAh and it runs on MIUI 8 based android 6.0 marshmallow.
