Sony will reportedly start using OLED screens for its devices by 2018. The Japanese company is currently using OLED technology for its television screens, and it may not take long before this screen would come to its Xperia devices.

Sony would not be the first company to use OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) on its smartphones. Samsung, a Korean-based tech giant, is using OLED screens for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices. There are rumors that Apple plans to use an OLED screen for its upcoming iPhone 8.

Despite using LCD screens for many years, Sony has a reputation for having devices with great screens and advanced camera technology.

Aside from the shift to OLED screen displays, Xperia phones are expected to get an upgrade in their processing and battery capacities.

Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 835 chipset recently, and it is currently undergoing mass production. Sony is likely to use this latest processing technology to improve the battery life of its upcoming smartphone.

So far, there is no indication as to what kind of camera technology Sony will offer for its next flagship phones. 

Sony has not been very active lately in the smartphone market. However, with the upcoming release of its flagship Xperia smartphones, the company is set to make a comeback.
