One of the most popular Chromebooks on the market currently is the Asus Chromebook Flip, which features a multi-form design, decent specifications and an affordable price tag. It is the first in its category to gain access to the Google Play Store directly with its built-in Chrome OS which allows users to download Android apps.

However, a leaked listing on Newegg revealed that the next Chromebook by Asus, which is the Asus Chromebook C302CA, could be a much better Chromebook. The Newegg listing revealed as the specs of the new Asus Chromebook C302CA.

According to the listing, the C302CA is powered by a 2.2 GHz Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor with 4 GB of RAM. It has a 12.5-inch full HD display and comes with 64 GB of internal storage. The Chromebook comes with a couple of of USB Type-C ports, a headphone jack, and also a micro SD card slot. The weight of the device was listed at 2.65 pounds in an all-aluminum body. This will add sturdiness to it when utilizing its 360-degree hinge, and a backlit keyboard. The listing on Newegg has since been taken down, but the price of the device was listed as $499.

The listing on Newegg was first spotted by Chrome Unboxed, which reported that the Asus Chromebook C302CA, codenamed Cave, will not be the direct successor to the Asus Chromebook Flip. The successor will be the Chromebook codenamed Bob, with the Asus Chromebook C302CA to occupy its own niche in the Asus Chromebook lineup.

Previous reports stated the Asus Chromebook C302CA has 8 GB of RAM, contrary to the 4 GB of RAM that was revealed on the Newegg listing. This could either mean that prior write-ups and reports were wrong, or that there will be a two versions of the Chromebook with two RAM options. This is a very important detail that needs to be confirmed because if the C302CA would indeed have a version that has 8 GB of RAM, its specifications, and expandable memory would be enough to challenge Apple's MacBook. Especially since the C302CA would offer almost all of the MacBook's functionality for just about half of the MacBook's price.

Although a lot may probably argue that the Chrome OS is not as capable as Apple's Mac OS, but if the Asus Chromebook C302CA is to be utilized primarily for browsing, working with Google web apps, as well as apps from the Google Play Store, it can definitely sway consumers from getting the more expensive MacBook.
