Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature on its iOS app that lets users edit or revoke a message that has been sent already. The feature can be accessed by long-pressing a sent message. The new feature will reportedly be available only for the texts which have not been seen by the recipient.

This year has been a big one for WhatsApp as the company released some very important features. It could end the year by adding an interesting feature which has long been requested by users.

The news came after WABetaInfo tweeted that WhatsApp will allow one to revoke sent messages, and even edit them.

This update will save users a lot of trouble because it is very common in the texting world for users to send messages by mistake to wrong people or send something they did not want to send to the right people. Until now, it was not possible to revoke or edit a message even when the recipient has not received it.

This update is still in the beta version and has been made available only to a few iOS users. Currently, on selecting a specific message, a user can see options to copy or delete the message. After receiving the update, users will see two more options to edit or revoke the message as well. Also, this option will not be enabled by default.

The feature is similar to recalling unread mails. Since this feature is still in beta mode, it is not clear whether WhatsApp will even be launching it. It could take another two to three months before it is made official on both Android and iOS.

More Features

WhatsApp is reportedly also testing a feature to allow users to preview the contents of archived ZIP and RAR files.

Among the recent features launched by WhatsApp are video calling, GIF support and video preview feature. It is also working towards a Snapchat-like status feature, which will be a standalone feature and will allow users to set daily status for their friends.

Although Whatsapp is facing a rising competition, especially from Google Allo and Google Duo, it boasts of a huge subscriber base of over 1 billion, which is expected to grow in the coming years.
