Niantic Lab will continue to develop Pokemon Go for Apple Watch amid rumors that the developer "has decided to stop development of the port" unless demand increases.

The company denied the rumors circulating on Reddit that Pokemon Go will no longer be released on the Apple Watch and that the device will be shelved.

"Thanks for checking with us! The image in that Reddit post is not real. Development on Pokemon Go continues, as it has since before the Apple announcement," Niantic stated.

Despite saying that the project will go forward, the developer did not indicate that Pokemon Go will be released on the smartwatch before the year ends. Instead, Niantic said that it would "have more news on the product soon." There are speculations that Pokemon Go's release on the Apple device was postponed due the game's plummeting ratings in recent months.

According to 9 to 5 Mac, the delay is due to Niantic's plan to launch a wearable device. The ingress model is rumored to have "five touch sensitive displays with multi-color LEDs to offer customized notifications and icons, up to 4-day battery life, and fitness tracking features."

In September, Apple announced during an iPhone event that the interactive game would be included on its Apple Watch. The wearable version of the game will have fitness tracking features that will let users play the game even without their smartphones.

Gamespot also reported that the device will display information about the required distance to hatch eggs and the number of XP to level up. Users can also spot nearby pocket monsters once they appear.
