Chinese multinational electronics company TCL may have signed the death of Blackberry with its acquisition of a majority of the latter's global rights.

The deal states that the purchaser will "design, manufacture, sell and provide customer support for BlackBerry branded mobile devices," while the Canadian company will only provide services and software support. The global terms of the agreement are not applicable in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India due to existing licensing agreements.

The deal made in Indonesia states that BB Merah Putih has the right to create and market new devices in the region. The agreement reportedly gained $105 million worth of revenue.

BlackBerry announced in September that it would terminate the production of its own devices and focus only on software and services. In fact, previously released Android phones from the company - DTEK60 and DTEK50 - were made of components of Alcatel Idol 4 and were manufactured by TCL.

BlackBerry was a leading player in the smartphone industry back in 2009. Its brand was well-patronized in the business sector, and the company sold thousands of devices annually. However, with the rise of competitors like iPhone and Android phones, it dramatically flopped in the market.

This is not the first time TCL has acquired an inoperative and adynamic smartphone company. In 2004, it started a joint venture with Alcatel and claimed to have gained the number four slot in top phone brands in the Northern America. It also bought Palm from HP in 2014 but has not released any plan for the brand yet.

TCL North America's President and General Manager Steve Cistulli hinted about BlackBerry's comeback under the Chinese company tweeting about an announcement of a new product at the Consumer Electronics Show next year.
