At the ongoing IEEE Globecom in Washington, Nokia is looking to make a big announcement that may influence the future of mobile communications. This comes after the news that Nokia is making a comeback in the global smartphone arena with Android-powered Nokia phones.

The Finland-based company is going to showcase 5G-related innovations through demonstrations and plenary discussions. The company will show network operators how they can maximize their resources like spectrum. Maximizing the use of spectrum could deliver the increased capacity and necessary speeds to handle the ever increasing number of connected devices, and users.

The new 5G-era for devices, machines, and people is dawning, and Nokia has already defined its path towards this future. Nokia's path to 5G aims at enabling operating to meet the demands of end users and capitalizing on the opportunities provided by the Internet of Things. Other areas that would benefit greatly from 5G include the ever-growing machine-to-machine communications that would enable smart cities and smart cars.

The step towards 5G goes through Nokia's own 4.5G Pro and 4.9G technologies. Nokia is looking to maximize on its previous launches earlier this year, like the 5G-ready AirScale radio. Additionally, the company has introduced the 4.5G Pro commercially to show some of the key features that will become part of a 5G network.

Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri has indicated that 5G is key in the development of IoT and that the company aims to be the leader in that aspect. It looks like that the company is poised to be exactly that, as it currently holds a 30 percent market share in 4G around the world making it the leader. All eyes are on Nokia at the IEEE Globecom, and its promise to be the world leader in 5G connectivity.
