Niantic has confirmed that Ditto, the last non-legendary Pokemon from the original 151, has finally made an appearance in Pokémon Go.

The inclusion of Ditto in Pokémon Go marks an important point for Niantic because aside from being the last non-legendary Pokémon, it is the first new Pokémon to be introduced since the game was launched.

Ditto is a Pokémon with the ability to mimic other creatures it sees. To find Ditto, players are forced to walk around and catch a bunch of scrub Pokémons. Niantic is trying to bring back player's interests in catching more Pidgeys and Ratatas.

Once Ditto is caught, players can bring it to the gym for battle. According to The Verge, Ditto will be able to copy the first Pokemon that it sees, and also retain all the moves of that Pokémon for the remainder of the battle.

Pokemon Go players have declined following its widespread appeal in the first few months of its release. In recent months, players have clamored for new content to keep them from being bored. According to Forbes, the inclusion of Ditto can help lure back players to the game because it finally gives them a reason to complete their Pokedex. However, critics say that more should be done to maintain the interest of these players. Ultimately, players need an endgame to bring them back, and lateral content to keep them playing.

Ditto is one of the few additional content that Niantic has added to Pokemon Go. Other lateral additions from previous updates include the buddy system, appraisals, and catch-bonuses for medals. Soon, Niantic is set to include 100 "Gen 2" Pokémons.
