Disney, in partnership with Intel, has launched a synchronized drone light as part of a dress rehearsal for the 2016 holiday show at the Walt Disney World Resort. About 300 super light Intel Shooting Star drones painted colorful images across the Florida sky.

The show titled "Starbright Holidays - An Intel Collaboration" marks the first time that drones will be used to perform a light show. While Intel envisioned a future where drones can fly in fleets to accomplish tasks, Disney plans to use drones for entertainment. Fortunately for Disney, it was granted special permission by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to use drones in its theme parks.

Alfredo Ayala, who works with the research and development arm of Walt Disney Imagineering, said that the company had been looking for innovative ways to express and share new types of stories. He told the Orlando Sentinel that the evolution of drone technology was something they had to explore.

"We're only talking about 300 drones. But what does it mean to the future. What is that limit? What can we do?" Ayala said.

The dress rehearsal held on Wednesday was made possible by 300 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) made of Styrofoam and plastic. According to Gizmodo, the drones weigh around 280 grams and are equipped with LED lights that can generate four billion different color combinations. Each drone is capable of flying for 20 minutes and has been granted licence by the FAA to fly as high as 400 feet.

Disney has not announced the official dates for the 2016 holiday show.
