Despite being a popular brand in the computer industry, Lenovo has not been able to establish its name in the global smartphone market. The PC-manufacturer has acquired Motorola to compete with Samsung, Apple, and others.

According to Pocket Now, Vibes and other phones labeled with Lenovo will be dropped and placed under the Moto brand. This major shift is expected to help the Chinese tech giant in the competition especially since "Lenovo's overseas smartphone performance has been better than China's."

The $2.9 billion buyout from Google in 2014 raised speculations that the Moto brand will be dead. These speculations were supported by reports that smartphones under the company will carry the "Moto by Lenovo" name which makes the latter a more prioritized brand.

However, with Lenovo's failure to make a better name for itself than Motorola in the mobile industry, there are speculations that the company's management will only market the Motorola brand for its smartphones line.

Lenovo remains strong in the PC industry gaining 70 percent of their total revenues from selling computers while its phones only sold $2 billion in 2015. The company is gradually also making a name as a "customer-oriented company focusing on devices with artificial intelligence and cloud services."

Meanwhile, products under the Moto brand remain popular in the market. The Chairman and CEO of Lenovo Yang Yuanqing revealed that the company has increased its sales by 20 percent with the support of the Moto brand suggesting that consumers are more confident with the brand.
