Asus ZenFone AR Google Tango-Based Smartphone to be Unveiled at CES 2017 in January

The Asus ZenFone AR (augmented reality), which is the first Google Tango-based smartphone from the Taiwanese electronics hardware manufacturer, Asus, is expected to unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in January.

The Asus ZenFone AR will be the second Tango smartphone after the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, which was revealed in June this year. Google Tango, previously known as Project Tango, was released in June 2014.

The Asus ZenFone AR uses GPS and external signals to measure the position and give 3D mapping and indoor navigation. It has a 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a pixel density of 490 ppi, and 16M colors.

The Asus ZenFone AR is powered by an octa-core chipset and runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box. It comes in two variants; one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and another with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in memory that can be further extended up to a maximum of 2TB via a microSD card slot.

The Asus ZenFone AR features an 8-megapixel camera at the back with 3264 x 2448 pixel resolution and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with the LED flash. It can record videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. Other camera features include geotagging, autofocus, face detection, face beauty, high-definition resolution, smile detection, burst mode, touch focus, and voice capture.

The Asus ZenFone AR is a dual SIM smartphone with connectivity options such as 4G LTE band, 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, 3.5mm audio jack, and microUSB v2.0 port. It will be available in gray, gold, and silver color.

There is no additional information about the Asus ZenFone AR. Asus Chief Executive Officer Jerry Shen did not also reveal the price of the device. However, he assured customers that it would be a competitive device with advanced functionality.
