Google has released the Google Daydream View, which is an upgrade to its previous virtual reality device, the Cardboard VR viewer.

This new headset comes with a design that is different from its competitors. The headset is covered in a fabric that it light and breathable. It also comes with a faceplate that comes off. This is especially beneficial for those that tend to sweat a little more than normal. Unlike other VR headsets, the View holds your smartphone in place through the use of a stretchy gray band.

The Google Daydream View is lighter and smaller than its main rival, the Samsung Gear VR, with a dimension of 6.6 x 4.2 x 3.7 and 7.8 ounces, as compared to the latter's 12.2 ounces, 8.2 x 4.8 x 3.9 inches. This works better when you have a compatible phone to pair it with, maybe a Google Pixel or Pixel XL.

The headset comes with the Android-only Daydream platform, which comes with VR-versions of popular Google applications like Google Photos, Google Movies, and even YouTube VR.

With the release of the Daydream VR, Google is on the verge of cracking greatness with its offering. This is despite the fact that Samsung Gear VR has more than a year and half in the lead, and a large catalog of apps, as well as better visuals. But do not count the Daydream out just yet, with a price tag of only $79, it could prove to be a worthy adversary. 

The Google Daydream View is available in countries like Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany.
