Google's Android Wear platform connects an Android device, such as a phone or tablet, to your wrist. Android Wear has garnered a lot of attention since its release, not only from consumers but also from developers.

Android Wear possesses an open operating system designed for wearable devices, such as wrist watches, and comes with a new UI. The first brands to utilize the Android Wear technology were Samsung Gear Live and LG's G Watch.

The reason why Android Wear targeted the wrist watch for its initial platform is that it is something most people understand and use daily. Android Wear watches work with an Android phone device.

To get started with Android Wear, all you need is an Android 4.3 device, installed with the Android Wear Application which can be downloaded from the Google Play Marketplace. The interaction between the two platforms will be carried via a Bluetooth connection. The notifications on your phone will be synced and shown on your Wear device. You will also be able to perform certain actions that are relevant to the notifications, such as reading an SMS.

The Android Wears' aim is to provide users with the right amount of information at the right time. 

In September, the much anticipated Moto 360 smartwatch under the Android Wear Category. It has been praised for its beautiful design and has received good response from consumers. This pushed other mainstream brands such as ASUS to announce the release of their own smart watches based on the Android Wear platform.
