Google announced its decision to dive into the latest virtual reality technology by naming a new boss and forming a new division.

According to a report from Computer World, Alphabet Inc.'s Google is concentrating on virtual reality and at the same time moving the head of its product management team to launch the so called program. When Clay Bavor, the vice president of product at Google since 2005, took the role as the vice president of virtual reality, he claimed that he is no stranger to goals such as this.

As one of the top player in product management, he aided the company's most well-known and used applications today such as Gmail, Google Docs and even the famed Google Drive. Furthermore, According to a past post by Re/Code, "The search giant is forming its own dedicated division for virtual reality computing, with CEO Sundar Pichai moving over a key deputy to run it, according to multiple sources."

At the same time, the big move also indicates Google's emerging intent to fabricate a viable enterprise business, as well as having its executive shift, Google's massive consumer Web applications would now be under the umbrella of the incoming SVP, Diane Greene.

Despite the aims that Google wants to share to the world, many people in the industry have uncertainties of Google's commitment to the platform. It has been noted many times that the company was not really stable in all of its past commitments. Some have even led the company to move cautiously after its scrabble with Google Glass.

Meanwhile, it was speculated that Facebook is treading on the same direction that Google wants to implement. It went public and remained assertive regarding its ambitions in VR. Facebook also has Oculus as its own separate division, a sector that the company is developing to make virtual reality attainable.

Nonetheless, the platform is still a lengthy one and it is a race against time and competitors. Although Google is on its long-term bet on the computing platform, it might still take years before it becomes a reality.
