Netflix is considering giving its users have the option of watching videos in offline mode.

While no concrete details about the possible rollout of this function have been provided, it is believed that the feature may not be available in the US and the UK. Netflix reportedly plans to take the step to deal with slow internet connection speeds in its various markets.

In an interview with CNBC, the Chief Content Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos said that the offline mode would be useful in places which are not serviced with high-speed internet. He stated that Netflix is now operating in a large number of markets with different types of internet setups. Sarandos added that as Netflix enters "undeveloped world and developing countries," it needs to explore different options for different set ups.

Netflix did not provide any set date that it will unveil the function. However, it confirmed that it is mulling the plan. Under this new scheme, Netflix will let users download a movie for offline viewing. Netflix had long held the view that offline viewing mode had been rendered redundant with the proliferation of high-speed internet. It had also stated that the introduction of offline view would have made then system more complex.

Netflix's change in stance is mainly due to its entry into the new markets. Netflix is currently available in 190 countries around the world. Out of these, 130 countries were covered during its expansion plan earlier this year. The company expects its new markets to drive much of its future growth.
