Apple continues to dominate the international tablet market. However, the overall tablet market continues to shrink as a new study reported a 14.7 percent decline year-over-year for the third quarter of the year.

The quarterly shipment of tablets stood at 43 million units, including 9.3 million units of Apple's iPad.

According to the report released by IDC, the iPad commanded a market share of 21.5 percent. It also stated that Apple's iPad Air and iPad Mini seems to be doing better than its iPad Pro as the former two accounted for more than two-thirds of its shipment during the third quarter of the year. However, on a year-over-year basis, Apple saw its shipment decline by 6.2 percent during the quarter. The company's iPad revenue remained flat.

Samsung commanded a 15.1 percent market share and held the second position. The company's tablet business did not seem to be affected by Galaxy Note 7 controversy. Amazon stood third with a 7.3 percent market share while Lenovo and Huawei followed with a 6.3 percent and 5.6 percent market share respectively. Despite the overall slowdown in the tablet market, low-end devices saw an increase in their reach.

Another report by Strategy Analytics showed that the tablet market is being dominated by two-in-one devices. The report suggested that Windows hybrid and tablet shipments increased by 25 percent on a year-over-year basis during the third quarter. It is believed that nearly 7.3 million units of each system were shipped during the quarter. At the same time, Android tablet shipments dropped by 17 percent to 30.1 million units.
