Video Game HOF 2016
Sonic the Hedgehog was included in the World Video Game Hall of Fame's list of 2016 inductees after getting passed over for last year's first class. Other titles on the list of classic games include The Legend of Zelda, Grand Theft Auto III, The Sims, The Oregon Trail, and Space Invaders. They were included in the old-school games named by the National Museum of Play.

The final list was reduced from 15 finalists and includes vintage games from various decades and platforms, according to Engadget. However, all of the games were selected for their importance to the video game industry, pop culture, and society.
The original Sonic and Zelda games are respectively Sega and Nintendo classics that have resulted in several sequels and spin-offs.
Space Invaders was an extremely popular game released in 1978 that added the first high score box. Meanwhile, The Oregon Trail is a 1971 game that teaches American kids about pioneer life by allowing players to control a covered wagon on the famous route.
GTA III was a game-changer due to its 3D graphics and sandbox-like open world. Finally, The Sims showed that video games could have widespread popularity without a concrete plot.
The 2016 nominees that didn't make the list of inductees included Minecraft, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter II, Tomb Raider, and John Madden Football. Elite, Nürburgring, Sid Meier's Civilization, and Pokémon Red and Green were also nominated but did not make the final list.
Anybody is able to nominate their favorite game. However, the museum points out that a special group makes the final selections. It includes journalists, scholars, and people familiar with video games and their function in society.
In related news, X-Men: Apocalypse has teamed up with SpacePortArcade.com to unveil Retro X: Arcade, according to Cinema Blend. It will give Professor Charles Xavier's students including Cyclops and Nightcrawler the chance to play video games at an arcade or on a home console.
Mutant Conquest is a Pac-Man-style game that features an Indiana Jones-like character. Meanwhile, Revenge of Hero requires players to shoot mutants/aliens. Finally, Mutant All-Stars Track & Field lets humans/mutants compete in a short race, high jump, and javelin throw.
